Reported by Werner: Using "default" devices results in very poor sound quality.
Possibly there are two reasons for this.
1. Reported that the default sample rate for the device is 48 kHz, but we open
the device in 44.1 kHz.
2. Problem with synchronizing with the hardware buffers in PortAudio. This was
already reported to PortAudio mailing list by Werner with subject "Some problems
with ALSA and some patches to fix them", A patch for fixing it was sent to their
list.(replaing snd_pcm_avail_update() with snd_pcm_avail()).
