I am using SC with a Google Apps domain on a daily basis and haven't seen the
issue.

How did you determine it did not work?

Have you properly configured your DNS records? In order for SC to determine that
it needs to connect to the Google servers you need to configure the proper
_jabber._tcp records for your domain as suggested here:

http://www.google.com/support/a/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=34143

Once this is done, all you need is to create a new jabber account with your
complete username (name at differentdomain.com) and your password. You don't need
to modify any of the advanced settings.

Let me know if this works.

P.S. We generally prefer it when people validate their issues to our dev list
before opening an entry here :)
