I gather that you store all user choices into:
    /Users/me/Library/Application Support/SIP
Communicator/sip-communicator.properties

That is not the standard Mac way of storing passwords.
On OS X, all passwords end up in the keychain.

Imagine I migrate to a new computer,
then I will probably forget to take that
"sip-communicator.properties" file with me.
All chat passwords ... gone.

But I will definitely export my keychain files.

Feature Request:
Please consider to start using the keychain.

P.S.: Your solution has advantages, too
- if I migrate to a different OS,
I might be able to use that config-file??? -

... so keep it in place, but perhaps consider
to _additionally_ store all passwords in the keychain?
